KL Freiburg
KL Freiburg GmbH is an independent, non-profit organization which offers apprentices supervised accommodation during their period of vocational schooling in Freiburg. As part of the Youth Welfare Service, we consider it to be our mission to promote and encourage key social skills among young people with the aim of helping them to become self-reliant and civic-minded. This is the principle guiding us in our endeavor to assist and guide our young students.
History
The International Guest House for Young People and Groups has been committed to serving the housing needs of young people since 1898. From its inception, KL Freiburg has pursued its core purpose of assisting and guiding young people in both their occupational training and personal development by providing accommodation under the guidance of in-house supervisors.
The Apprentices’ Residence was initially located at Kartäuserstrasse 43 but moved to its current address at Kartäuserstrasse 41 in 1968. Major renovations of the building were undertaken between 2003 and 2005 as well as between 2013 and 2015. In 2012 the original name “Catholic Apprentices’ Residence” was changed to KL Freiburg – International Guest House for Young People and Groups.

Our contribution to Environmental Protection and Sustainability
Being firmly committed to environmental protection and sustainability, we assess, on an ongoing basis, what functions well in our organization and what needs to be improved upon. Ever since 1999 we have had a 230m² solar power system mounted on the south side of the KL building, which produces roughly 16,000 KWh of electricity annually. In May of 2017 we were awarded the European Environmental Certificate in accordance with EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme), which forms the foundation of our eco-management process at KL Freiburg. We, the staff members of KL, consider it our mission to help preserve the environment and expect our guests to be environmentally aware as well.
